Sands Of Time
“The sands of time cannot be stopped.”
And yet…
Though once said for all to know,
I am not quite certain why it’s so.
Just how can you be so completely sure…
that for all eternity, time will endure?
So, what would come to pass,
if the sands no longer flowed,
and also ceased to shift, Alas…
with no claim to immortality owed?
Now perhaps you know…
What happens to the tide, when waves erode the sand?
What happens to light, when darkness covers the land?
What happens to sound, when the tree ceases to fall?
What happens to the wind, when it blows against a wall?
But tell me, is it really so?
The flow of time remains secure.
Yes, how can you be so sure?
For all eternity time shall endure.
And, do you know…
What happens to faith, when truth’s no longer found?
What happens to hope, when the body is in the ground?
What happens to charity, when greed corrupts the will?
What happens to hunger, when in time you’ve had your fill?
Can it surely be so?
The flow of time remains secure.
But, how can you be so sure?

Furthermore, please tell me…
What happens to ambition, when all desire is lost?
What happens to sorrow, when tears turn to frost?
What happens to grief, when feelings no longer come?
What happens to pain, when the drugs begin to numb?
So now tell me, just why is it so?
Time’s flow must remain secure.
Just how can you be so sure?
For all eternity time shall endure.
Yes, how can you truly know,
time’s flow remains secure?
And, with certainty…
Can you really show,
that at eternity’s dawn,
time will also endure?
