"Your life shall hang in doubt before you; night and day you shall be in dread, with no assurance of your life." |NRSV ~ Deut 28:66-67
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction." |NRSV ~ Prov 1:7
Fear, Uncertainty, & Doubt…
Three Demon horsemen ride,
to hunt life’s secrets out.
Known as Fear and Uncertainty,
followed by Doubt.
And when Fear comes calling,
ahead of the other two,
Your sanity may be tested,
before all is through.
There’s also the Wise Rider,
who’s always been there,
Guarding life’s Secrets,
from unbridled despair.
His steed commands power,
in a most imposing way.
Yet He’s not to be feared,
as many would say.
If only you’d awake,
from the dark of night
You might see this Rider,
covered in white.
Still most people remain,
completely unsure
Not willing to surrender,
secrets kept obscure.
So Uncertainty weakens,
your very resolve,
Which is when Panic n’ Anxiety,
begin to evolve,
And the shadow Doubt casts,
with its passing by,
Will haunt your very soul,
though formed from a lie.
When you left your door open,
just a tiny crack,
Fear rode in,
and never looked back.
You should’ve told him then,
you really must go.
Instead Uncertainty followed,
with Doubt in tow.
You reasoned they’d leave,
whatever they took,
If you couldn’t be found,
wherever they looked.
So You searched for a place,
where you’d surely be lost,
and never even considered,
if you could afford the cost.
Buying any treasures,
that your eyes could desire,
Thinking to leave,
your demons stuck in their mire,
Certainly your happiness,
would keep them at bay,
Until your good credit,
was squandered away.
So you indulged in spirits,
to soothe the Spirit inside,
And never even noticed,
when Affliction arrived.
Then you built a wall of anger,
behind which to hide,
But the horsemen rode on,
as they wouldn’t be denied.
When all was gone,
save for hope or despair,
You chose the latter,
for you no longer cared.
If only you’d known,
the fourth Rider in White,
You may have stuck around,
to put up a fight.
Now should these Horsemen,
show up at your door,
Be certain you’ve kept,
no secrets in store.
And if you call on Wisdom,
to discern what life’s about,
You’ll use Fear to remove,
all Uncertainty and Doubt.
