"If if was a skiff, we would all just sail away" |-Unknown

What If You Found A Friend?

What if you found a friend…
who could be more than just a friend?
Would you risk kindling the spark…
that could perhaps ignite a flame?
And, what if you found the one friend…
who was meant to be your Flame?
Could you forsake selfish desires…
to fan your Flame as true passion requires?

But…

What If you found only a Fan…
who would indulge your foolish desires?
Would you instead, greedily delight…
in the favor that followed?
And, what If you found favor…
from many adoring followers?
Would you then demand a fortune be raised…
in tribute to your fleeting fame?

And yet…

What If you simply found a fortune of truly great worth?
Would you invest wisely, or foolishly squander it away?
…until perhaps, its value was only that of a farthing.
Even so, what If you found only a Farthing?
Would you even care?

Well then, consider this …

What if the farthing found, was a coin so rare…
it was worth a fortune?
And, what if fortunes found…
were never foolishly squandered away?
…but perhaps even invested…
to help lost followers find their way.
What if followers no longer followed…
but were leaders instead?
And, what if fans could find self-worth from within?
Would they then instead…
just become friends?

With all the many questions, that life can surely pose,
finding answers to the What Ifs, are perhaps the hardest to know.
For though What Ifs, quite often, are answered with a lie,
most just yield more what ifs, sapping the will to try.

A thousand, thousand faces pass before the eyes.
All with unknown possibilities, and none yet revealed as lies.
If only from a passing glance, with certainty it could be known,
which eyes reveal love’s connection, and which are best left alone?

But can an unread story, with its conclusion already drawn,
awaken true passion, in the way new visions yearn to be drawn?
Just as the picture painted, is completed one stroke at a time,
true fellowship only flourishes, when you find the ties that bind.

Oh to have a Friend that would be our one true Flame,
in all that mattered in life, and not only just in name.
Then life’s what if’s would slowly fade, in splendid sunlight…
becoming Life’s “What Is”, to carry us through any dark night.
