When planning a vacation, do you begin by meticulously researching, and preparing every little detail months in advance? Or, are you like myself? Though consideration for possible destinations has been given, the process of searching the web to select the actual destination and make reservations is finalized just weeks or even days before the vacation is set to begin. Yes, I have even begun the process with less than a week to go.
In spite of the last minute planning, every vacation taken has been completely memorable. However, because of the “living on the edge” method of preparation, not every vacation went according to plan. Adjustments needed to be made along the way, which perhaps, provides a little perspective to the introspection that follows.
A little over two years ago I created the web site, Meadows of the Mind to be the platform launching my endeavor into writing. Although the ultimate goal is to write fantasy fiction novels, along the way I have taken a detour and began composing poetry. After writing several poems in a somewhat a similar style, I felt the need to broaden my horizon and decided to try my hand at writing Haiku.
So, as any conscientious person would do, I first searched the web to make sure that I would be adhering to proper haiku format. This led to the realization that haiku has ridiculously obscure and elusive rules, with no “purely kosher” haiku format, that is of course, outside of the Japanese language… and even on the inside I am pretty sure liberties are taken… all the time. Consequently, I have created 俳句 & More Haiku, to showcase haiku of the non-traditional kind using the “Pirates Code”, which as we all know is more like guidelines.
